NCC, SON Sends Out a Strong Message to Violators in 2013

The Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) last Friday sent out a warning message to Telecom operators who failed to adhere to rules and regulations of the commission, stating that the commission will not let any offender go unpunished this year for going contrary to the rules and regulations of the commission on any charge.

Speaking on the issue, the CEO of the Commission, Dr Eugene Juwah said, “it is not going to be business as usual,” as he will not falter in sanctioning operators that will take the commission for granted.

In his words: “I want to assure Nigerians that it will not be business as usual for telecomm operators. NCC will continue to be alive to be responsibility by protecting the interest of Nigerians as we have been doing and 2013 will not be different. We have rules and regulations that guidelines operation of telecommunications and we expect every operator to abide by that. Any operator that fails to follow these rules should be ready to face sanctions.”

In addition, Dr Joseph Odumodu who is the Director General of Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) said the organisation was committed to rendering service to the people with the best of its ability, that the year 2013 appeared very promising and the organisation will not leave any stone unturned in the discharge of its duties.

He advised importers to adhere to the code of importation, otherwise; any importer found guilty of importing substandard products will regret ever making that move because the organisation was ready to tackle every illegal activity.

“We will continue to sanitise all the sectors on the need to avoid importing and sales of fake products. We have held seminars and workshops and we hope importers and manufacturers will abide with it. Nevertheless, let me state that any individual or company that fails to abide by the standard of the organisation will be dealt with. We will not fold our hands. In the new year, we are battle ready to rid Nigeria of substandard products.” He said
