ICPC to fraudulent contractors: “2013 won’t be business as usual”

The Independent Corrupt Practices and other related Offences Commission (ICPC) has communicated its renewed determination and strategies to combat fraudulent contractors come 2013.

In a warning message, it said contractors should take note because “2013 won’t’ be business as usual.”

Again, the commission warned Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government against spending or dipping their hands into unspent funds in the 2012 budget saying, “we are going to check the treasury in January next year to see how much has been returned.”

The commission advised those in the habit of stealing government funds to change for the better, just for their own good and the good of the entire country.

Speaking on the same matter in Abuja on Wednesday, the Chairman of ICPC,

said, “Impunity to law and order and non-compliance to rules and regulations are the major contributing factors to the rise in corrupt practices in the country

“As from 2013, ICPC will go after any contractor who abandons project on site after collecting mobilization fees, the university teacher who extorts and harasses students, and the public servant who breaches fiscal and budgetary rules as well as persons living in apartments or owning property above their legitimate means.” The ICPC boss had affirmed.

Recounting their efforts, Nta said that with the assistance of the Pension Reform Task Team, the Pension Scheme has been sanitised.

This year alone, he said about N243bn was remitted into the Retirement Savings Accounts of contributors.

He said under his watch ICPC would not wait for complainants or petitions from the public before moving to investigate and possibly indict those who abuse public offices.

He said ICPC has established the Financial Investigation and Assets Tracing and Recovery Units to enhance clinical and dependable efficiency.
