Fed Govt to present Budget for 2013 on October 4

Yesterday the Federal Government pledged that President Goodluck Jonathan would present the 2013 long awaited budget on October 4. It also said that N710.4 billion on the 2012 budget has until now been released.

The outline copy of 2013 budget was yesterday presented by the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, who disclosed   that the government had cash-backed N553.2 billion for the realization of 2012 budget, stating that ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) have utilized N320.9 billion.

She stated that, until March ending, the implementation of the 2012 budget could not begin for the reason that the MDAs were still executing the 2011 budget. Based on this information, she said, President Goodluck Jonathan resolved that the 2013 budget ought to be ready by this month so that the budget will be set before the finish of the year.

She mentioned that by the time the draft copy returns from the National Assembly, it would be tweaked and set for the president’s speech and presentation on the said October 4.

    Well it is a good development if budget proposal is presented on time. the biggest problem now is the 2012 budget which is yet to be felt by the common man on the street.
