Oil Marketer Drags Reps, EFCC to Court Over Subsidy Report

Integrated Oil and Gas, one of the oil marketing companies indicted in the fuel subsidy report has dragged several government bodies including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and House of representatives to court.

The company has instituted a suit, before an Abuja Federal High Court, which seeks to invalidate the fuel subsidy report.

Other respondents in the suit include the Attorney General of the Federation, the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission and the Inspector General of Police.

The subsidy report named Integrated Oil as one of the oil marketers liable to refund subsidy earlier paid to it back to the Federal Government’s coffers. The amount of subsidy refundable totals N 13.25 billion.

The subsidy report also named Integrated Oil as a tax defaulter based on information provided by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), although no mention was made of the amount of tax owed.

In its suit, Integrated Oil is seeking the invalidation of the report on the grounds that no allegations of wrongdoing were levelled against the company when it’s CEO appeared before the committee.

Counsel for Integrated Oil, Tayo Oyetibo, prays the court to rule against “the resolution of the House approving the report of the committee that it should refund N13.2bn” .

They also argue that argues that, “The report is contrary to the rules of natural justice and section 36 of the Constitution and therefore illegal, null and void.”
