NPA to Build Dedicated Electricity Power Plant

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has revealed that it will construct an electricity generation plant to tackle the incessant electricity outages at the port.

Managing Director of the NPA, Omar Suleiman, stated that the electricity plant would also make business at the ports more effective and efficient.

Speaking during his conferment as a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Transport, Suleiman commented on the immense and rewarding opportunities for investors in Greenfield ports in the country.

Commenting on the progress made after the reforms in the Nigerian ports, he said more jobs had been created, vessels turn around time had been reduced, and documents were processed faster now.

Suleiman disclosed that the NPA had commenced provision of rail access to the ports, decongestion of ports access roads, as well as pushing for early passage of the new Port Act, currently with the National Assembly for consideration.

The NPA helmsman also disclosed the falling cost of doing business in Nigerian Ports as “issues of various surcharges” due to the multiplicity of government agencies at the Port.

“They cannot come back again as they used to do in the past, whenever we send them out because this time around, we have a president who has put his foot down and said things must be done properly,” he added.
