Guaranty Trust Bank (GT Bank) said on Tuesday acting chief executive Segun Agbaje would take over as the lender’s substantive head following the death of his predecessor last month.

Agbaje joined GT Bank when it first launched in 1991.

Former chief executive and co-founder of GT Bank, Tayo Aderinokun, died last month in a London hospital after several months of illness. “Mr. Segun Agbaje is the natural successor to Mr. Aderinokun in line with the well defined succession plan of the bank,” the bank’s chairman Oluwole Oduyemi said in a statement.

GT Bank, one of the top five lenders by assets in sub-Saharan Africa’s second-biggest economy, is also listed on the London Stock Exchange and concluded a $500 million Eurobond in 2011.
