NEPC canvasses companies’ involvement in export

The Nigerian Export Promotion Council has urged companies with the Nigerian Industrial Standard certification to get involved in export, saying that the acceptance of locally made products has increased in the foreign markets.

NEPC stated that about 80 per cent of exporters from Nigeria pulled market forces at the trade fairs held in Lome (Togo); Accra (Ghana); and Niamey (Niger) in 2013.

The Executive Director of NEPC, Mr. Olusegun Awolowo, wooed the NIS certified companies during an export business roundtable organised for NIS certification mark winners on Thursday.

He said, “The feedback from our participation at the fairs staged in three countries of the West Africa region in the last quarter of 2013 showed high levels of on-the-spot sales, which is an indication of the appreciable acceptance of Nigerian products by consumers.

“Also, export orders and potential agents in these foreign markets were generated by 80 per cent of the exhibitors who were mostly manufacturers’. Over 300 manufacturing companies participated at these events. Companies that had won the Nigerian Industrial Standard certification mark should ensure that they participate in the export business to maximize their potentials.”
