AGF advises workers on resource management

The Accountant-General of the Federation, Alhaji Ahmed Idris, has called on financial managers in the public sector to adopt cost-effective ways of managing the nation’s resources.

He also called on all Nigerians to always strive to do things well as a way to support the anti-corruption agenda of President Muhammed Buhari.

Addressing members of the Association of Women Professional Financial Managers of Nigeria at the Treasury House in Abuja, Idris enjoined all professionals to be committed to the ethics of their professions.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the AGF’s office, Idris was quoted as saying, “We all know what we can do as groups and individuals to contribute to the actualisation of the change we expect in Nigeria. We don’t need to be told what is right and what is wrong, we all know what is right, and what is wrong and we should not wait for people to come and tell us to do them.

“Therefore, as people managing finances in your various offices, I urge you to be accountable, transparent and employ more cost-effective ways of managing government’s resources.”

He reminded the women that as financial managers in various areas of the nation’s financial sector, they should assist in blocking leakages, stopping corruption and all other vices inimical to the economic development of the country.

The accountant-general explained that this position had become necessary because of dwindling resources of the government occasioned by the fall in oil prices.

He promised that the treasury under his watch would make the issue of staff welfare, particularly that of women, a priority.
