Musician wants FG to make entertainment industry contribute to economy

Lagos –  Mr Cohbams Asuquo, Director Cohbams Asuquo Music Production, has asked the Federal Government to make the entertainment industry a viable contributor to the nation’s economy.

Asuquo said on Tuesday in Lagos that the government needs to tackle some fundamental issues like piracy, and make stiffer laws to sustain the industry.

He said that handling such issues would protect peoples’ intellectual property and make their work contribute to the nation’s economic growth.

“Sustainability of the industry would stem from structures being put in place by the government and stakeholders in the entertainment industry.

“Piracy has been the bane of the industry for a long time. It has really eaten deep into the industry. Stiffer laws should also be put in place and be enforced to curb piracy,” he said.

He urged the government to ensure that other states take the issue of piracy seriously to encourage the sector and make it thrive.

Also, the Director, Greenland Music Production, Wole Adesanya called on the government to implement polices and create the enabling environment that would grow the industry.

“We need to guard our creativity and the enabling laws from government would help us do that,” he said.

He said government should also make the arts, culture and tourism, and entertainment industries vital tools to project the image of the country to the world.

Adesanya noted that the producers spend a lot of money producing music, films and videos but lack articulate marketing strategy and distribution.

Another musician, Mrs Iniobong Adesanya said that “music relaxes and gives life to peoples’ soul and should be given necessary support by the government.

“I am a gospel singer and I am touching peoples’ lives with my music but lack of structures is our major challenge.

“People are passing through a lot of stress, and we need to make them happy through entertainment,” she added.  (NAN)
