Government assures brokers of patronage

The government s of Ondo and Ekiti States have pledged their continued patronage of insurance to brokers. The Ekiti State Head of Service, Mr Bunmi Famosanya,  gave the assurance when a delegation of the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers, paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Ado Ekiti, recently.

Mr Famosanya noted that Ekiti State government placed high premium on risk management, noting that the disposition had informed its past patronage of insurance brokers for which the state had derived some good measure of advantages.

He disclosed that in a bid for probity and proper risk management, the state had undertaken the setting up of a comprehensive data base for all assets of the state government and stressed the need for better collaboration with insurance brokers whom he described as the professional intermediaries who assist the clients to maximise the benefits of their insurances.

Also speaking at the inauguration of the Ondo- Ekiti State Chapter of the Council, in Akure, the Ondo State Commissioner for Finance, Honourable Dapo Kolawole, noted that the state government had continued to utilise the services of insurance brokers in order to take maximum advantage of the insurance of its numerous assets.

Represented by Mr Albert Akinkotu, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Kolawole advised insurance brokers to eschew all forms of unethical practices and imbibe constant knowledge acquisition and ethics to remain relevant in their crucial position in the insurance chain.

Speaking earlier, the President of the NCRIB, Dr Teslim Sanusi, had stressed that the NCRIB placed great premium on professionalism and ethics, advising insurance clients to always patronise registered insurance brokers for their insurances.

“All corporate and individual clients need to patronise registered insurance brokers to ensure effective packaging of their insurances, a situation that precludes them from the challenges faced by many clients when losses occur,” he noted.

Sanusi stressed that the Ondo-Ekiti chapter of the Council was being inaugurated to fulfil part of the cardinal mandates of the Council in enhancing public awareness about insurance broking practice to all nooks and crannies of Nigeria.
