SON boss vows to do more for economy

Dr. Joseph Odumodu, the Director General of Standards Organisation of Nigeria has vowed to do more for the economy by making the country free of substandard products.

This was his reaction to the conferment of ‘Public Servant of the Year Award’ on him by the SUN Newspaper.

“The award is a motivation for me to do more. am happy that an independent observer has been following our activities at SON. This time, it is not about criticism but recognition for hard work, and we will do more. I dedicate the award to the management and staff of SON because without them, this would not have been possible,” Odumodu told reporters in Lagos.

Industry chieftains who graced the event described Odumodu’s award as deserving.
Mr. Shirish Mehta, Managing Director of MINL Nigeria Limited, who expressed satisfaction at the choice of Odumodu for the award of Public Servant of the Year, said he has consistently followed antecedents as the DG of the SON and the sanitisation campaigns of his agency.

He said the man has made landmark achievements since he became DG of the SON, especially in the last two years, during which he had revolutionised the galvanised sheets sector through his agency’s interventions.

According to him, such interventions led to the introduction of new standard gauges for galvanised sheets, saying this has made the product affordable by many Nigerians thereby boosting the business of galvanised sheets manufacturers.

Also commenting on Odumodu’s award, Anil Hemnani, of Primlarks Nigeria limited, said he has been particularly impressed by the dispatch with which Odumodu addresses issues reported by operators to his office.

He advised that the award should fire Odumodu and his team to do more for the country in the area of sanitising the sector of questionable products.
