Driver’s licence: FRSC lays fibre optic cables to facilitate processing

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) on Tuesday said that it had started laying fibre optic cables to hasten issuance of the new driver’s licence.

The Lagos State Sector Commander of th FRSC, Mr Chidi Nkwonta, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

“The network is improving, but its failure has not been eliminated totally; engineers who are working on the project are consistent.

“We are now laying fibre optic cables so that the issue of network failure will be a thing of the past.

“Our goal is that everybody will work in and process his/her driver’s licence without stress,“ he told NAN.

He urged applicants to be patient.

NAN reports that the commission recently said that it would open additional six application processing centres to facilitate issuance of the updated licence.

According to it, the new centres would be situated at Onigbongbo, Agege, Alaka, Apapa, Badagry and Ikotun.

NAN reports that the existing centres are Ojodu Centre I and II, Ikeja, Bariga, Ikorodu, Lagos Island and Ojo.

Motorists in Lagos have been criticising the commission for the frequent breakdown of its driver’s licence processing system.

The Joint Tax Board initially set a deadline of Oct. 1, 2013 for motorists to get the new licence.

The board later extended it to June 30. (NAN)
