NAC thumbs up Dana Motors on Kia plant

THE Director General of the National Automotive Council (NAC), Engr. Aminu Jalal has commended the management of Dana Motors, representative of Kia Motors in Nigeria for its bold step to set up an auto assembly plant in Nigeria.

The Director General who spoke through his Director of Policy and Planning, Mr. Luqman Mamudu during the signing of an agreement between Dana Motors and Kia Motor Corporation (KMC) South Korea, for the setting up of Kia assembly plant in Nigeria said that the partnership will create quality employment for Nigerians.

“We commend you for taking the bold step to establish a vehicle assembly plant in Nigeria which will create significant quality employment and a wide range of technologically advanced manufacturing opportunities,” he said.

Dana Motors Management team led by Mr. Jacky Hathiramani (MD/CEO) signed on behalf of his company while Mr. Homer Kim who led the Kia team from South Korea signed on behalf of Kia Motors Corporation.

State of the art systems
In his remarks, shortly after the agreement the Managing Director of Dana Motors Mr. Jacky Hathiramani noted that his company aims to set example for others to follow with the setting up of state-of-the-arts systems, technology and logistics applied to the assembly plant.

According to him, Dana Motors aims to surpass customers expectations and with the growing number of Kia vehicles across the country there is need to better support for maintenance by upgrading the facilities and investing in people, thereby creating jobs, increasing skills and ultimately producing cost effective vehicles. This, he also noted will promote the development of the automobile sector and drive the components part requirement of international standard at competitive prices.

Dana Motors in showing its commitment to the development of the Auto policy in Nigeria had identified that, it will only be possible with a well equipped world class facility, in which KIA Motor Corporation (KMC) will provide the technical know-how for plant, machinery and assembly of the vehicles, restructuring its existing short term obligation to align with investment done in long term assets.

According Dana Motors, the Auto policy forms part of the agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan’s Nigeria Industrial Revolution Plan and the National Enterprise Development programme. The President’s plan is commendable and fully supported by Dana Motors and KIA, as it is setting the stage for a new era of industrial, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises development in the country intended to transform the nation’s industrial landscape, leading to an increase in skills development, job creation and conserve foreign exchange.”

“Continuing, the Managing Director said the Auto Policy, which has been promoted by the Ministry of Trade and Investment under the leadership of Dr. Olusegun Aganga,  will accordingly fast-track industrialization, accelerate inclusive economic growth, transform Nigeria’s business environment stopping the drain foreign reserves by importing  and start production and assembly locally”
