Work on Oshodi/Apapa Expressway has reached 38% completion – Official

The Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Mr Oluwatoyin Obikoya, has said that work on the Oshodi/Apapa Expressway has reached 38 per cent.

Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Sunday, Obikoya said the high volume of vehicles, indiscriminate parking of articulated vehicles and reckless driving slowed down the pace of work.

He, however, said that traffic had been diverted in such a way that the construction would not obstruct the movement of vehicles.

He said that reconstruction on the Oshodi side from Cele Bus Stop to Sanya Bus Stop had been completed while that of the Apapa side had gone up to two kilometres.

“From Sanya to Cele Bus Stop, the work has been completed. Everything, including earth work, drains, site clearance and laying of asphalt has been completed,’’ he said.

The controller said that work had reached binder level on various spots, pointing out that a drain causing flooding in the Mile 2 area had been demolished and reconstructed.

“We demolished a failed U-channel because it is inadequate for the volume of water coming and constructed another one to correct the problem of erosion in the Mile 2 side of the project.

“The old channel was inadequate and heavily silted. We also removed kerb stones and replaced them from Otto/Warf Bus Stop to Total area on the Apapa side,” he said. (NAN)
