Court stops Edo government from selling water project pipes

An Edo State High Court sitting in Benin, has restrained  the Edo State Government from disposing or selling the water project pipes stacked in two places in Benin City for the water supply scheme project of the state government.

The court made the order following a suit by a company, AIC Limited, handling the projects, following the alleged failure to the state government to pay an outstanding sum due the company up till September 30, 2012, which included interest charges for the delayed payment.

The pipes include 5700 Ductile iron pipes and 3000 consumer meters iron pipes stacked at the Ikpoba Dam premises, Okhoro Road, Benin City. It will be recalled that the water scheme project started in 1991 during the military regime.

The company in the suit is claiming the sum of N300 million and payment of 20 per cent interest on the general damages until the general damages were paid by the state government.

Trial judge,  Justice A.Edodo-Eruaga, after listening to parties, restrained the state government “from removing or disposing the Doctile iron pipes and consumer meter  iron pipes from the premises where they are stacked.”
