Governor Kwankwaso condemns Petroleum Industry Bill

kwanskwoGovernor Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano State has stoutly kicked against the proposed Petroleum Industry Bill, PIB, saying that such action was capable of undermining development and security in the region.

The Governor made his view known during the House of Representatives Ad hoc committee public hearing on the PIB, in Kaduna on Tuesday.

He maintained that the major problem of the petroleum industry and indeed the nation in general was failure to get rid of corruption, saying that if “we try to adjust by being patriotic, honest and prudent, Nigeria would be a different place to live.”

According to him, “It is very sad to dedicate anything as percent to one section of the country in the name of apparent development or compensation. Such kind of actions are undermining development and security of our region. It is another way of deriving us from particular rights, which is a crime.

“PIB is not our rights, we must throw it away for the unity and progress our dear nation. this issue, we discussed many years ago on the unity of our dear nation not trying to mock our well being in giving us a dummy to support.

It’s particularly unfair that one section of the country cornered almost everything about our wealth, in addition to 13 percent derivation fund for one section of the country, Ministry for Niger Delta, NDCC, Amnesty and Empowerment of billion of naira, building and construction.

“The state government recommends that this committee and by extension, the National Assembly should expunge the following sections from the proposed Bill: Sections 116, 117 and 118 respectively.’’

The Governor disclosed that the secret behind these feats is the Kano State Government’s policy of zero tolerance for corruption and embezzlement of public funds as well as adopting principles of honesty, commitment, patriotism and above all the belief in holding public office as a trust accountable here on earth and before our creator in the hearafter.

He said, “The Kano state government and people are opposed to this bill in all its contents, we know our representatives will be open on many temptations to coerced them as usually done to secure the needed votes. We are not bothered, but we are not with any representatives from Kano state who accepted this bill, it is our stand, nothing more nothing less.”

“We are determined to punish anybody who has allowed himself to be used to destroy our development or bring insults to our people. We are awake, we know who sold us out, they can never be forgiven just like before,” he added.
