Aero Airline workers asks company to withdraw sack letters

Hundreds of employees of Aero Airlines on Monday besieged the headquarters of the company in protest of their sack.

They accused the organization of dropping the sack letters at their residence without their consent. An action they said was at variance with a court injunction on the matter.

The workers numbering about 700 blocked the road leading to the airline corporate headquarters in Lagos, explained that the option of sack explored by Aero’s management will further compound problems for the airline, as passenger’s confidence was fast eroding over inability to resolve issues bothering on staff welfare.

They warned that Aero airline was pushing them to the wall, as their outright sack was an insult to the spirit of collective bargaining and gross violation laws affecting personnel engagement.

Addressing the workers, the Acting General Secretary of the National Union of Transport Employees (NUATE), Comrade Motajo Abdulkareem said, “What the Management of the Airline has done is a gross violation of the agreement it reached with the union.”

He lamented the unilaterally sack of the workers, saying that the union will engage the Management of Aero Airlines legally until the rights of workers infringed upon is addressed.

Abdulkareem also accused the company’s management of using divide and rule tactics to cause disaffection among the workers, “This could send wrong signals about the aviation industry.” he said

The Management of the Airline is yet to officially deny or confirm whether it delivered letter to its workers without their knowledge.

    This is very bad, and it is really affecting passengers. I have to fly Chachangi yesterday bcos Dana air was asked to suspend their operation. What d hell is happening, whatever be d case u people shhould consider that these ones u sacked for no reasons, have families and responsibilities.
