Ministers of Finance, Trade and Investment, Environment to brief FEC today

The Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Minister of Trade and Investment, Olusegun Aganga and the Environment Minister, Hajia Hadiza Mailafia are to brief the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting today.

It was gathered that the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is expected to lead the two Ministers to defend their performance as Ministers.

The Ministers are expected to give account of the things they have done, the challenges and the plans they have for the future.

A source at the presidency who spoke to our reporter in confidence stated that President Goodluck Jonathan has vowed to assess the performance of the ministers and retain the best. Adding that any minister found performing bellow government expectation would be removed.

The source said, “This exercise is unique in the sense that the ministers will not only present their score cards to Mr President alone, but to their peers to ensure transparency and fairness.”

He said another noteworthy issue that is slated for discussion today at the FEC meeting is “suspension of inter-country child adoption in Nigeria.

“The memo for this discussion will be presented by the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajia Zainab Maina.”

Inter-country child adoption is the latest issue generating controversy in countries like United States, Russia, and presently Nigeria.

In addition, the FEC meeting also has on its agenda the proposal of establishment of a Youth Desk in relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), which will be deliberated upon.

Also today, the FEC would discuss and possibly approve the establishment of a Youth Desk in relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
