Advertising Industry Is Dying Because Of Multiple Taxation — OAAN
The Outdoor Advertising Association of Nigeria has attributed the declining affluence of the business in the country to multiple taxations.
National President of the association, Mr. Charles Chijide, who stated this on Friday, also called on governments at all levels to team up with stakeholders to recover the industry.
While speaking at the OAAN chief executive officers’ retreat in Ibadan, Chijide recommended that state governments team up with local governments in their states on revenue collection to guarantee harmony.
He said, “If the state governments must collect tax, there must be a law to back it up by the state Houses of Assembly.”
He condemned the clumsy arrangement of revenue collection by various signage agencies of state governments and called for the re-evaluation of the process.
He also noted that the invasion of quacks into the sector is also affecting the business so much, adding, “All unregistered but practising practitioners will no longer be allowed to operate as from January 1, 2013.”
He said, “What foreigners do here, we can’t do it abroad; APCON has nothing against foreigners but they must be regulated.”
The Director-General, Oyo State Signage and Advertisement Agency, Mr. Yinka Adepoju, said that revenue collection was better slick in the state as only the group had the task of collecting revenue as well as controlling outdoor advertising in the state.
He said, “OYSAA is determined to sanitise the outdoor life of the state and ensure that advertisers adhere strictly to the developmental stands of the state.”
