FG, Firm Seal Deal on Dairy Farming Devt
The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria PLC, makers of Peak, Three Crowns and Friso brands, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on dairy development in Nigeria.
A statement issued by the company said the event was the outcome of the Dairy Development Programme launched by FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria PLC in August, last year, at Shonga Dairies in KwaraState.
The statement, which was signed by the company’s Corporate Affairs Manager, Mrs. Ore Famurewa, noted, “it is obvious that we are committed to making dairy farming in Nigeria a success.
Today, we have formally signed a Memorandumof Understanding (MoU) with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. As partners, we will work together to improve dairy farming by strengthening the capacity of farmers, increase the market share of locally produced milk as well as create employable labour and expand investment opportunities.”
In addition, Famurewa reiterated that “FrieslandCampina, will apply all its technical know-how and expertise to ensure that dairy development succeeds in Nigeria. The first phase of the project will start from Oyo North, OyoState and later Abuja, FCT; with the lessons learnt, we will replicate the project more efficiently in other areas of Nigeria.”
According to her, the Dairy Development Program (DDP) was an initiative of FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria PLC, which was a Private-Public Partnership that was conceived to trigger growth in the Agro-economic sector of Nigeria.
