CBN shifts Plagiarism Blame from Sanusi to Speechwriters

The Central Bank Governor, Mallam Lamido Sanusi has responded to the allegations of plagiarism leveled against him by a US-based professor, Victor Dike.

The Governor spoke through Ugochukwu Okoroafor, the Corporate Communications Director of the apex bank.

The Governor di not deny that there was an infraction of plagiarism, however he did shift the blame from his person and placed it on the institution.

According to the statement released by the CBN, “For the avoidance of doubt, we wish to state categorically that Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi did not write the said paper.  Governors of the Central Bank of Nigeria, just like Chief Executive Officers of similar institutions in Nigeria and abroad, deliver papers, not in their personal capacities, but on behalf of the institutions for which they are chief spokespersons. In the case of the CBN, such papers, even though presented by the Governor, represent our collective views and are prepared by professional researchers in the relevant departments of the Bank. We can vouch that such papers are prepared in line with strict global and ethical standards.”

The statement also said that the CBN Governor had not been served any court papers as of yet.

Most analysts are of the opinion that the CBN will probably settle this suit out of court and compensate Professor Dike.
