President May Revoke Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Concession Agreement with Bi-Courtney
In what appears to be a response to pressure from the Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, the President has indicated that he may revoke the road concession agreement granted to Wale Babalakin’s Bi-Courtney.
Speaking at the commissioning of Dangote Cement’s $1 billion cement plant in Ibese, Ogun State, the President stated, “The government hurriedly entered into some road concession agreements with some groups of people. We will make sure that we review some of them.”
The President was responding to remarks from Amosun who stated that the governors of the South-West were perplexed about the deplorable conditions of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and the Sagamu-Ore-Benin Expressway, two of the busiest roads in the country.
Amosun lobbied the president to review the contract and hand it over to a more competent contractor, promising that the governors of the South-Western state would complement Federal Government’s efforts to revive the roads.
Bi-courtney has accused the Ogun State government of sabotaging its efforts to revitalize the road. The company has accused the government of seizing a $ 6 .5 million asphalt plant bought by the company for reconstruction work.
The company also claimed that the Federal Government had issued a cease and desist order to the Ogun State governor to stop hindering the project.
