Air Nigeria to take delivery of New Aircraft, Re-commence London and other Routes

Air Nigeria has announced plans to take delivery of 4 new aircraft valued at N 45 Billion ($ 280 million).

According to Kinfe Kahssaye, CEO of Air Nigeria, the company plans to two Airbus A330-200 and two Boeing B737 aircraft, increasing its fleet to 15 from 11 and allowing it to traverse more routes in and outside the country.

Kahssaye also said Air Nigeria will re-commence its routes to Johannesburg and London in the first quarter of 2012.

The company also plans to introduce new regional routes including Kinshasa, Freetown, Ouagadougou, Bamako, Conakry and Malabo.

Speaking on strategic plans for the carrier, Mr. Kahssaye stated, “Where we want to go from here is to reposition the airline to be the leading player in West Africa, build competitive and strong global network based on the Lagos hub. Also, we want to build a maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility and further build a competitive workforce.”

Mr. Kahssaye also praised the efforts of the owner of Air Nigeria, Nigerian entrepreneur Jimoh Ibrahim in placing the airline back on the path towards profitability.
