Ogbe wants subsidy fund diverted to agriculture
he Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbe, has said that the country would benefit more if the funds earmarked for fuel subsidy was channelled into the agricultural sector.
According to Ogbe, the multi-billion naira subsidy funds, if deployed to the sector, will guarantee a long term revenue for the nation.
A statement signed by the Director of Information in the ministry, Mr. Tony Oheari, said Ogbe pledged support to all the agricultural Institutes towards achieving a robust research result.
The minster also said that part of the fund should be used deployed enhance capacity of Agricultural Colleges and Institutions, and extension services.
He explained that the essence of the Colleges of Agriculture was to produce a new generation of young farmers to take over from the old ones, adding that all malfunctioning agricultural research Institutes would be fixed.
