NNPC to name filling stations, trucks receiving fuel
The Pipelines and Products Marketing Company, a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, has said it will start publishing trucks and the stations receiving fuel from Tuesday (tomorrow), in a bid to ensure effective monitoring.
The PPMC disclosed this on Saturday during a visit to Ajebo community, Obafemi-Owode Local Government, Ogun State, where a petrol pipeline was vandalised on Friday.
The pipeline conveys products from Mosimi depot in Ogun State to Ibadan depot.
The Managing Director, PPMC, Mrs. Esther Nnamdi-Ogbue, said, “We will follow up those petrol stations receiving products. One of the things we are going to do is that from Tuesday, I believe, we are going to publish every truck leaving the depots, the station they are headed for.
“We are going to publish the phone numbers of the truck drivers and the stations so that we all monitor those trucks together. Each truck is important because what has happened in the past months or so should never be repeated and we are putting structures in place to ensure that it never happens again.”
Noting that the pipelines are the most efficient way of moving products, she said, “For the first time in a very long time, we are pushing products all the way to Ibadan. We intend to move to Ilorin because what that does is that the bridging from Lagos is reduced; people can go and pick up their products in Ibadan and Ilorin.
“Then we will also open up Ore. This is being replicated in other areas. However, we acknowledge the fact that this (pipeline vandalism) is a challenge and we have to systematically handle it. It is something that has been a menace for the past 10 to 15 years.
According to her, no product has been pumped to places like Makurdi, Yola in the last 10 years.
“And that means that in that region, you have to truck from Calabar, Enugu, or Aba all the way to Yola. The roads are a problem.”
Stating that there would be strategic storage in the country, Nnamdi-Ogbue said, “We have major depots; we hope with our pipelines coming back, we are going to push products to those strategic storages so that in the event that there is a need for intervention, we can have tankers going to the nearest depots and loading.”
