New airport terminals nearing completion – FAAN

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has said the new terminals being constructed at four international airports located in Lagos, Port Harcourt, Kano and Abuja are at advanced stages of completion.

The General Manager, Corporate Communications, FAAN, Yakubu Dati, said in an interview with our correspondent on Tuesday that the agency would take delivery of the terminals by the end of the year.

He said, “The contractors handling them have given the assurance that they will begin delivery towards the end of the year.

“So, we are holding them to their promises; and from what we can see, we are quite impressed.”

Dati added that members of the National Assembly were at the different terminals last week on oversight function, adding that they made their observations and were  looking forward to the completion of the projects, which would improve Nigeria airports’ capacity from 15 million passengers per annum to about 24 million passengers per annum.

He added, “Interestingly, the Lagos terminal also has a component, which even though is a separate project, involves a multi-storey car park that will accommodate 500 vehicles. That will reduce the traffic logjam at the terminal.

“The uniqueness of the Abuja terminal is that it is going to be linked to a railway line. You will have a rail line that will take you right into the terminal. Each of the terminals has its uniqueness. We hope that by the time we have completed them and other supportive projects around the terminals, it will build up to what we want to achieve, which is vast passenger facilitation, safety and security.”
