We cannot sell petrol at N86.50k – IPMAN

The Chairman, Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Kwara State Chapter, Mr. Olanrewaju Okanlawon, says members of the association in the state can no longer sell premium motor spirit popularly called petrol at the approved price of N86.50 per litre.

Okanlawon told journalists in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, on Friday that about 600 members of IPMAN had resolved to sell the commodity at prices in consonance with their operational costs.

According to him, inadequate supply of petrol from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation depots has forced members to patronise private depot owners, who he alleged sold the product at N107 per litre.

The Operations Controller, Department of Petroleum Resources, Kwara State, Mr. Salvation Phillips, has insisted that all marketers must comply with the federal government pump price directive.

Okanlawon said, “The NNPC does not have product and we are forced to be sourcing from private depots and the price is very high.”

We cannot continue to shut down our petrol stations any more. We have not been able to pay salaries to our workers for the past five months.

“Our resolution at our meeting is that any marketer who buys the product from private depot, not from NNPC, should sell at the rate at which he bought.”
