Ambode seeks more business relations with NBCC

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has called for strong business relations with the Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce (NBCC). The Governor made the call at the inauguration of Dapo Adelegan as the 14th president of the Chamber.

Adelegan was appointed as the President NBCC following the tenure expiration of his predecessor, President, Prince Adeyemi Adefulu in June this year.

Speaking at the inauguration in Lagos, Ambode congratulated the NBCC President and called for enduring business relations with the Chamber. He described Lagos as the biggest beneficiary of NBCC’s contributions to trade relations between Nigeria and Britain.

“There’s no gainsaying that Lagos is the biggest beneficiary of these efforts with the volume of investments that are located in the state,” Ambode said.
Governor Ambode represented by his Deputy, Dr. Oluranti Adebule,  pointed to the $136 billion increase in the state’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and the rising profile  of the state as one of the fastest growing cities in the world, were parts of the positive results of bilateral relations led by NBCC. He cited the contributions of the chamber in increasing trade volume between Nigeria and Britain from £4 billion in 2010 to over £7 billion in 2012.

He noted that the effort of the government in the past few months has been on improving infrastructure and strengthening the capacity of security operatives to create an enabling environment for investors.

Adelegan appreciated Governor Ambode for his interest in the activities of the Chamber. He said the Chamber was committed to partnering the government to make Lagos a mega city that the world will be proud of. He thanked the council members of the Chamber for the opportunity to serve.

Adelegan, who is also the Chairman Celtron Group, expressed the commitment of the Chamber to fostering trade relations between Nigeria and the United Kingdom. He said the recent trade mission to the UK was in line with determination of the Chamber to strengthen the capacity of the Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs) to tap into the opportunities in the British market.

The NBCC boss said the Chamber was committed to changing the negative perception of Nigeria in Britain through relevant platforms.  He said the Chamber would support its members in archiving their aspiration in the United Kingdom while providing access for British businesses in the Nigerian market. He cited the opening of an office in Abuja as a platform to make the Chamber accessible to stakeholders.

Highlight of the event was the presentation of the Public Sector Leadership Award to Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko. In the corporate category, British Airways received the British Business Leadership Award; the SME Support Bank Award went to Fidelity Bank, and Diamond Bank bagged the Outstanding Retail Bank award. However, the Most Supportive Corporate Member of the Year Award went to Greenwich Trust Limited.
