IPMAN seeks quick passage of supplementary budget

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria has appealed to the National Assembly to quickly pass the supplementary budget submitted by the Presidency.

The Assistant National Secretary of the association, Alhaji Ahmed Fashola, made the appeal in Lagos while addressing some journalists against the backdrop of the ongoing fuel scarcity in the country.

President Muhammadu Buhari had requested the National Assembly’s approval of the supplementary budget of N465.64, from which the subsidy arrears of N413bn would be paid.

He said, “I am appealing to the National Assembly to urgently pass the supplementary budget to arrest the fuel scarcity problem in the country.

“Government should also do the needful speedily to ensure payment of marketers’ subsidy claims.

“At the IPMAN level, we are also appealing to our members to try their best to assist government in ameliorating the situation.”

Fashola assured the journalists that all independent marketers would begin 24-hour operations in their stations to reduce queues.

He added that surveillance and monitoring teams had been inaugurated to check defaulters, and promised that the scarcity would soon end as the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation’s management had assured its members of sufficient supplies.

“Based on the loading template, we have started seeing the changes,’’ he added.

According to him, the national body of the association has directed all members operating in major cities to avoid hoarding or selling above the official pump price of N87 per litre.

He advised that any marketer having challenges doing business should contact the security operatives and the IPMAN zonal offices or headquarters in Abuja.
