Dangote supports Kogi with N160m skills centre

In order to bridge the technical skills gap in the country, the pan-African conglomerate, Dangote Group, has constructed an automation skills development centre valued at N160m in Lokoja, Kogi State.

In a statement on Tuesday, its President, Aliko Dangote, who spoke at the inauguration of the centre, said that the state-of-the-art skills centre was meant to support the development initiatives of the state government in technical skills acquisition.

Dangote, who was represented by the Managing Director, Obajana Cement Plant, Mr. Jaiprakash Gungune, said such a centre had become necessary in view of the fact that “the Federal Government under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has prioritised technical skills development and empowerment for Nigerian youths.”

He said, “Dangote Automation Skills Development Centre will help revive and develop technical skills in the country, and as well provide jobs for the youths.

The Chairman of the Project Implementation Committee and Executive Director, Dangote Group, Mansur Ahmed, said the Governor of the state, Idris Wada, and the President of the Dangote Group were the brains behind the project, adding that they expected the project, when completed to make Nigerian youths employable and self-employed.

Speaking further, Governor Wada described the organisation as a worthy partner, adding that the centre would improve the economy of the state by making the youths employable.

Moreover, the Lead Consultant and Chief Executive Officer, Skill-Up TVET Limited, Afolabi Imoukhuede, gave the assurance that the project would be completed by November, adding that it would be completed in a record time, and would be a reference point across Africa.

On his part, the Kogi State Commissioner for Land, Housing and Urban Development, Stephen Maiyaki, described the Dangote Group as a blessing to Kogi State, saying the state government would continue to partner with the group in its plan to develop the state.

He lauded the developmental efforts of Dangote and his company, urging other entrepreneurs to emulate him.
