Ensure safety of aviation sector – NCAT Rector urges stakeholders

The Rector, Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria, Captain Samuel Caulckric, has advocated for stronger collaborative efforts from all stakeholders in aviation industry to
enhance the sector’s safety.

He stated this at a combined graduation ceremony of League of Airport and Aviation Correspondents courses for Basic (B-LAAC-10), Senior Management (SM-LAAC-5), Refresher (LAAC-R-3) and Air Traffic Controllers (ATC) in Zaria.

About 38 participants drawn from different media organisations in the country attended the one week training programme held at NCAT Zaria.

The Rector, represented by the Deputy Rector, Mr Ojogbane Achimugu, said the call became necessary in view of the fact that safety was key to the industry.

He said, “There is every need for the college, National Airspace Management (NAMA), Federal Airport Authority and Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to strengthen collaborative efforts to enhance safety of the sector.”

He charged the participants to make good use of the knowledge acquired to improve their professional activities.

In his speech, the Director of operations, NAMA, Mr Felix Fineboy, lauded the NCAT management for what he described as ‘rapid changes in terms of equipment and facilities in the college.

He charged the air traffic controllers from NAMA to be mindful of the safety of lives of people, stressing that using flights was totally on their hands.

Fineboy promised that NAMA would increase its situational emergency awareness aimed at enhanced safety.

Responding, the Chairman, League of Airport and Aviation Correspondents, Mr Chukwumeneke Ineyahro, thanked NCAT, NCAA, NAMA and FAAN for sponsoring the programme and assured that it would go a long way to enhance reporting the sector’s activities.

He stressed the need for Emir of Zazzau, Dr Shehu Idris to aid the college reclaim its encroached land with a view to standardising operations and improve safety in training.
