Benue Government presents N12bn supplementary budget

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has presented a supplementary budget of over N12billion to the Benue State House of Assembly for consideration and possible passage.

The governor, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance,  Mrs. Ruth Ijir,  laid the supplementary appropriation bill before the state lawmakers.
Leading the debate during the second reading of the Benue State Supplementary Finance and Appropriation bill, 2015, the Majority Leader, Mr. Benjamin Adanyi,  who was represented by the member for Katsina Ala East Constituency, Mr. Iiana Jato, explained that the state government proposed a supplementary budget of N12,940,350,511.50.
According to him,”this supplementary budget seeks to increase the sum of N97,952,126,303 earlier approved by the immediate past administration to N110,892,476,815.
Jato explained that the increase in the budget was informed by the need to match the urgent economic realities with the aspirations of the present administration,  adding that the reason for the upward review of the budget was also to enable government meet the needs and vision of the incumbent administration,  as well as improve the overall welfare of the people of the state, and moved a motion that the bill be read the second time.
Seconding the motion,  the member representing Kwande West,  Mr. Benjamin Nungwa,  said there was every need for the House to approve the second reading of the bill and subsequent passage to assist in tackling some of the challenges confronting the state.
Consequently, the Speaker, Mr. Terkimbi Ikyange referred the bill to the Committee of Supply to be taken for the third reading.
