Benin Airport to be closed for four weeks for maintenance

Air travellers taking the Benin City Airport in Edo State may have to seek alternative route as indications emerged Thursday that the airport would soon be closed for commercial flight activities for about four weeks.

The airport, one of the oldest in the country, according to an official who craved anonymity, was scheduled to be closed to enable the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) carry out a Turn Around Maintenance (TAM).

When THISDAY visited the airport, there was low activities following the news that filtered in that most workers will be out of job in the interim.
It was gathered that the closure would take place from June 20 to July 17, 2015.

Effort to get the Airport Manger, Ayodele Sunday, to speak on the matter was not forthcoming as he said he was yet to be briefed.

It was also learnt that the TAM will mostly be for
the rehabilitation of the runway (RAMP) to ease flight landing and takeoff.

The Benin City Airport main building was last renovated three years ago.

With this, all flight activities would now be shifted to Warri or Asaba Airport pending when repairs are fully completed.
