Post-PIB shakeup: NNPC drills workforce on regulatory compliance

In a move that suggests it is already considering its operational status in a competitive oil and gas industry as enunciated in the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB), the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has opted to drill its workforce on how to comply with regulatory principles.

NNPC, THISDAY understands in a statement from the International Institute for Petroleum, Energy Law and Policy (IIPELP), a think-tank with expertise and interest in Africa’s energy sector, in Abuja has enlisted IIPELP to train top management staff in its Regulatory and Policy Compliance Division on standard regulatory practices and compliance procedures.

The training is expected to last for two weeks and will provide NNPC managers the opportunity to garner sound understanding of regulatory and compliances standards in the global oil and gas industry as well as its impact on the activities of a regulator vis-à-vis the regulated.

Also, the corporation will, through the training, expose its managers to the appreciation of contemporary key principles of regulation, including competition policy and licensing as well as the role and responsibilities of the regulator in these areas.
