13 airports to get airfield lighting soon –Minister

Thirteen of the nation’s airports will be fitted with airfield lighting for improved productivity and enhanced operations very soon, the Minister of Aviation, Mr. Osita Chidoka, has said.

A statement by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria quoted the minister as saying this when he inaugurated the Common User Passenger Processing System at the Muratala Muhammed Airport, Termina Two, in Lagos.

Osita, who emphasised the importance of safety and security in the aviation sector, said the concept of ‘Measurement, Monitoring and Improvement’ had become inevitable if the country’s aviation industry must move forward.

The CUPPS was installed by Bi-Courtney Aviation Services, operators of the MMA2.

The statement quoted the Chairman, Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited, Dr. Wale Babalakin, as commending the government for its support.

The minister also inaugurated self check-in kiosks, screening points and check-in counters at the terminal.

The statement noted that the occasion was attended by aviation stakeholders and service providers

Meanwhile, the FAAN has denied allegations that the Aviation minister has sacked its Director of Finance, Mr. Tochuku Uchendu, over irregularities in his appointment and the granting of unauthourised waivers worth over N1bn.

FAAN, in another statement, said Uchendu’s appointment was neither irregular nor did he ever grant waiver to any of the agency’s customer.
