Firm gets licence for 500MW power plant

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission on Wednesday issued Trombay Power Generation Limited a licence to operate a 500-megawatt power plant.

The Chairman of NERC, Dr. Sam Amadi, said the company’s application was subjected to a painstaking scrutiny for the coal-fired powered plant.

Amadi, was quoted in a statement as saying that the 500MW power plant was located at Wajari village along the Dadinkowa Road, Yamaltu Local Government Area of Gombe State.

He said, “I commend your patience and perseverance to follow through your application. Coal power plant is becoming important in our efforts to diversify our fuel source.

“I hope you will follow through your timelines in constructing the power plant with the same dedication you displayed in the course of this application.”

The Commissioner, Legal Licensing and Enforcement, NERC, Dr. Steven Andzenge, said, “This is a milestone in the sense that it is in line with NERC’s objective of diversifying Nigeria’s fuel source.”

Responding, the President of Trombay Power, Jitendes Sachdeva, described the issuance of the licence as heart-warming.

“I am glad to receive this licence. The commission is a truly transparent regulatory agency,” he was quoted as saying.
