Achebe retires as Diamond Bank chairman

Diamond Bank Plc on Wednesday disclosed that Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe has retired as the Chairman of its Board of Directors.
His retirement was approved at a recent board meeting.
Diamond Bank disclosed this in a two paragraphs notice to the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), dated January 13, 2015, which was signed by its Company Secretary/Legal Adviser, Nkechi Nwosu.
The letter titled: “Change in Directorate-Resignation and Appointment of Chairman Board of Directors,” also announced the appointment of a non-executive director, Dr. Chris Ogbechie, as the new chairman of the board of directors.
“We wish to inform you that the board of directors of Diamond Bank Plc at its meeting held on November 29, 2014, approved the retirement of Igwe Ugochukwu Nnaemeka Achebe, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the bank effective December 31, 2014.
“In his stead, the board unanimously approved the appointment of Dr. Chris Ogbechie, a non-executive director, as the chairman of the board of directors of Diamond Bank, with effect from January 1, 2015.”
The new chairman of the bank has a First Class Honours degree in Mechanical Engineering from Manchester University and an MBA from Manchester Business School. He has wide experience in marketing and strategy derived from his work as head of marketing/sales at Nestle Nigeria, Xerox and from his consulting work with Nigerian firms over the years.
While in Nestle, he had wide international exposure in Malaysia, Singapore and Switzerland. He has been involved with several start-ups and is on the board of several companies.
Ogbechie is a faculty staff of the Lagos Business School, where he teaches Strategy and Corporate Governance.
On the other hand, Achebe was born in Onitsha on 14 May 1941, is the Obi of Onitsha.
