She said preparations for the commercial launch had started and that the Data Centre would be formerly launched by the middle of January 2015.

Opeke said the company, which commenced business in 2010 as a submarine cable operator,  had since diversified into data centre service provider and cloud computing service provider in order to meet customers’ needs, driven by new technology trends.

She said the Tier 111 Data Centre, which comes with 600 racks storage capacity, would meet the business needs of financial institutions, oil and gas, telecommunications, government agencies, media houses with large contents, eCommerce operators, Internet Service Providers (ISPs), among others, including Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs) in the area of data storage and control.

.MainOne Data Centre Project Manager, Mr. Gbenga Adegbiji, who spoke during the facility tour, said the facility is divided into two wings, Wing A and Wing B, with each wing having a 300 rack space and complete replication of all facilities, including the power generating system.

He said most of the software applications that drives the centre, were contracted to Schneider Electric  based on the reliability, flexibility, availability and trusted solutions that the company offer.

Describing the cooling system, Adegbiji said the data centre has the capacity to keep data cool at all times, since it is designed to pump in cool air always and also absorbs hot air emitted from the racks, thereby keeping the centre ever cool and safe for data storage.

The Chief Executive Officer of Signal Alliance, Mrs. Adanma Onuegbu, one of the prospective business partners, who was part of the facility tour, told THISDAY that she and other business partners that took part in the facility tour, were pleased with what they saw, and commended MainOne for its business initiative.

Before now, most multinational companies operating in Nigeria, preferred to host their sensitive and big data outside the country due to lack of Tier 111 Data Centre in Nigeria.

But with the construction of a Tier 111 Data Centre in Lagos, by MainOne, it is expected that all multinational companies will change their  decision host data outside Nigeria.
