Customs records N900m revenue in 11 months in Sokoto

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Sokoto/Kebbi/Zamfara Area Command, has said it recorded over N900 million as revenue from January 2014 to date.

Speaking with newsmen in Sokoto recently, the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Mr. Ahmed Isyaku, said this was what the Command collected out of its projected revenue of N1.4 billion for the 2014 fiscal year.

According to him, the Command was determined to meet the projected target and even exceed it.

He stated that the Command was also sensitising the traders, entrepreneurs and people on the need to imbibe the habit of paying the specified duties on all goods.

He noted that such efforts were paying up as now the average monthly revenue collection had shored up to about N107 million, as against the about N90 million to N100 million he inherited from his predecessor.

Isyaku disclosed that the Command was partnering various border communities, religious and government officials in the area to ensure a hitch-free operation.
“We are also training and re-training our officers and men with a view to handling arms carefully and being more civil in discharging their duties,” he said.
