SON promises new measures to remove substandard products

The Director-General, Standards Organisation of Nigeria, Dr. Joseph Odumodu, has promised to continue to devise measures aimed at removing substandard products from the nation’s markets.

He made the pledge when he led a facility inspection tour to Coleman Wires and Cables factory in Sagamu, Ogun State on Thursday.

Odumodu, who lamented that counterfeiting was a critical issue in the sector, however said SON would not leave any stone unturned in terms of ensuring that wires and cables sold in the country complied to standanrds.

He commending Coleman for its compliance to standardisation and quality, and emphasised that the organisation would continue to support its over N10bn investment in the country.

According to the SON DG, the huge investment is a mark of confidence in the nation’s economy.

Odumodu said, “SON will continue to support this initiative to ensure that the investment is worthwhile. We will continue to use standardisation and reinforcement to remove substandard products in the market.

“Counterfeiting is a critical challenge in the sector and we all have the responsibility to drive the standardisation initiative. One of our six-point agenda is to support competitive made-in-Nigeria products so that we move the way the world is moving because we can’t afford to be in isolation.”

The Managing Director, Coleman Wires and Cables, Mr. George Onafowokan, on his part, assured SON that the company would continue to live up to expectation as far as quality and standards are concerned.

“We will continue to adopt all the standards. This is very important and key to boosting customers confidence in the sector,” he added.
