300 to benefit from NDE empowerment

The National Directorate of Employment (NDE), an agency of the Federal Government set up to combat mass unemployment in the country, has designed a special mirco-empowerment scheme (SMES) aimed at empowering the poorest of the poor in the society. The scheme is to disburse N3 million to 300 persons across the three senatorial districts of Imo State.

Disclosing this to THISDAY after carrying out a pilot assignment in the state from November 4 – 12, 2014, the Director, Inspectorate Department of NDE, Abuja, Mrs. Henrietta Ifeoma Achigbu described the scheme as novel which was through the vision of the Director General, Mallam Abubakar Mohammed.

The scheme, she said, was a pilot one test carried out in eight states of the federation and because of its general impact and acceptability, the Director General approved that it be extended to all states of the federation. According to her, the fund would help the beneficiaries with existing micro enterprise to enhance them while assisting the establishment of new micro business in order to assist their self-sustenance.
