Investors spend N12.9m on ETPs

Investors spent N12.9m investing in the country’s growing Exchange Traded Products market last week, data from the Nigerian Stock Exchange showed.

Specifically, 702.099 units of Exchange Traded Products were traded in 19 deals during the week, compared to the 5,407 units of ETPs valued at N316,261 which were traded the previous week in 15 deals.

A breakdown of the ETPs traded showed that 701,759 units of the VETIVA GRIFFIN 30 valued at N12.3m were traded in 11 deals, while 340 units of the NEWGOLD ETP valued at N671,764 were exchanged in eight deals.

In its report for the week under review, the Exchange said4,600 units of Federal Government bonds worth N4.8m were also traded in a deal.

Also traded on the floor of the Exchange during the week were 1.413 billion shares worth N17.038bn in 24,427 deals.

That is in contrast with a total of 1.885 billion shares valued at N23.733bn, exchanged by investors in 24,705 deals a week earlier.

The financial services sector led the activity chart with 1.053 billion shares worth N9.498bn traded in 13,526 deals; thus contributing 74.51 per cent and 55.75 per cent of the total equity turnover volume and value, respectively.

The conglomerates sector followed with a turnover of 156.680 million shares worth N857.6m in 1,558 deals, while the industrial sector was third on the activity chart.

In the sector, 62.401 million shares worth N196.893m were exchanged by investors in 856 deals.

The Exchange observed that trading in the shares of Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc, Mansard Insurance Plc and Guaranty Trust Bank Plc (measured by volume) accounted for 368.622 million shares worth N3.933bn in 2,886 deals.

This accounted for 26.09 per cent and 23.08 per cent to the total equity turnover volume and value, respectively.

At the close of trading activities for the week, the NSE All-Share Index and market capitalisation of the listed equities rose by 2.33 per cent to close at 39,087.10 basis points and N12.906tn, respectively.
