Etisalat has joined the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System Plc, Internet Solutions and several other Information Technology firms to network with new graduates and students at a three-day 2014 I Cee Technology Workshop.

A statement on Tuesday described this development as part of the firms’ collective commitment to career development among the country’s teeming unemployed graduates and students.

The workshop organised by Career Development Network, according to the statement, is a learning platform aimed at giving students and young graduates direct access to employers and professionals in the ICT industry.

CDN said the workshop would boost the understanding and confidence of the participants through customised skills sessions where entrepreneurial and career development questions would be answered.

“Participants will also gain considerable exposure via insights from networking with industry practitioners and recruiters,” the statement said.

It added that the sessions were designed to highlight the key skills required for typical routes into the ICT industry and would give valuable insights into what employers look for when recruiting, and entrepreneurial opportunities in the sector.

The Director, Business Segment at Etisalat Nigeria, Mr. Lucas Dada, lauded the initiative for providing a platform for young people, students and school leavers to systematically gain entrepreneurial experience from ICT experts and drive entrepreneurial spirit among Nigerian youths.

He said, “At Etisalat, we are passionate about small businesses and budding entrepreneurs, and we remain committed to providing them with every necessary support they need to thrive in their chosen endeavours.”

The Managing Director, Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System Plc, Mr. Ade Shonubi, noted that NIBSS support of the workshop underscored the company’s role as an inclusive financial market shared-service platform focused on driving technology through effective collaboration with industry stakeholders.

Moreover, the Managing Director, IS Internet Solutions, Olusola Teniola, said that ICT skills development formed a critical social responsibility initiative of the company, adding that the company’s passion was not only about technology but also about contributing to a better society.
