Ondo to spend N2bn on agro business projects

Ondo state Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, said on Monday that the sum of N2bn had been earmarked for the development of agro-business projects across the state.

Mimiko said this during the commencement of preparation for cassava planting at the Ore Agro-Business City, where he assured the people of his administration’s commitment to eradicate poverty and unemployment through modern agriculture and the abundant natural resources of the state.

The governor said his administration embarked on the clearing of 1,000 hectares of land for the cultivation of cassava, maize and rice as well as the construction of extensive irrigation facility, using the source of Oluwa River to ensure provision of water for all activities in the city, adding that 20 boreholes would also be provided in different parts of the farm.

“Indeed, we are confident that we will achieve our objectives as we have earmarked a sum of N2bn for this project,” Mimiko said.

According to him, the ceremony is significant as it marks the beginning of the cultivation of cassava and maize by the youth and women groups selected for the programme, adding that the profit made from the sale of the produce would be handed over to the participating farmers and agric entrepreneurs.
