NCAA to sack airline workers over safety violation

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority has said it is prepared to sack employees of any airline who violate safety rules.

The regulator has, therefore, warned employees of airlines against activities it says are dangerous to the safety of passengers.

The Acting Director-General, NCAA, Mr. Benedict Adeyileka, said that the regulator was not happy with airlines that were not doing well in the area of protecting their passengers.

Adeyileka said this while issuing an Air Operators’ Certificate to the owners of Air Peace in Lagos on Monday.

“The NCAA now has power to sack people in any airline if such people carry out activities that are dangerous to safety. Whether they are pilots or engineers, we will pull them out. The NCAA will go after airlines that are not doing well. That is our commitment to safety,” he said.

Adeyileka said that following the issuance of the AOC to Air Peace, the airline would join others for domestic flight operations.

He explained that the airline was issued the licence after its management met all the requirements in record time ahead of commencement of operations.

Adeyileka urged the management of the airline to ensure that it adhered to all safety and technical regulations, and to ensure that issues of staff training, aircraft maintenance and crew matters were taken seriously, adding that the NCAA would not hesitate to sanction it for any violation.

The Chairman, Air Peace, Mr. Allen Onyema, said the carrier was set to change the face of air travel in the country, adding that it had acquired seven aircraft ahead of the commencement of operations.
