NNPC seeks Army, Police’s support to protect assets

The Group Managing Director, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Dr. Joseph Dawha, has called on the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Police Force to assist in protecting the corporation’s vital oil and gas assets.

Speaking during courtesy visits to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Kenneth Minimah, at the Defence Headquarters, and the Acting Inspector General of Police, Mr. Suleiman Abba, at the Force Headquarters, Dawha thanked the security chiefs for their role in providing cover for the operations of the NNPC despite mounting challenges.

The GMD, in a statement by the corporation on Wednesday, said the NNPC would continue to collaborate with the Nigerian Army, which had been providing security support for the firm’s assets in the upstream, midstream and downstream sectors.

Dawha also highlighted the role of the Nigerian Army Engineering Corps in providing security for the NNPC Right of Way across the country.

He enjoined the Army to continue to provide security support in the fight against crude oil theft as this had impacted negatively on the nation’s resources in recent times.

Minimah expressed satisfaction with the bond between the NNPC and the Nigerian Army, and said the two organisations would continue to have common grounds of cooperation for national economic development.

The statement noted that Dawha, before the courtesy call to the Defence Headquarters, had visited the Louis Edet House, where he paid tribute to the officers and men of the NPF for their untiring support in providing security to the NNPC’s assets and facilities across all sub-sectors.
