Market indicators appreciate by 0.24%
The equities segment of the stock market recorded gains on Tuesday with the major indicators appreciating.
For instance, the Nigerian Stock Exchange All-Share Index rose by 0.24 per cent or 103.76 basis points to close at 42,861.80 points, as against a depreciation of 0.64% loss the previous day.
Similarly, the market capitalisation of the listed equities was up by 0.24 per cent or N34bn to close at N14.153tn, compared to a 0.64 per cent fall, which saw it close at N14.118tn on Monday.
The NSE 30 Index rose by 0.19 per cent to close at 1,942.94 basis points, while the NSE Lotus Islamic Index gained 0.45 per cent to close at 2,849.21 basis points.
Three of the five NSE sectoral indices – NSE Insurance Index, NSE Consumer Goods Index and NSE Industrial Index – advanced, while two of the indices – NSE Banking Index and NSE Oil and Gas Index – declined.
The insurance index rose the most, gaining 0.75 per cent to close at 150.19 basis points, while the oil and gas index fell the most, shedding 0.14 per cent to close at 449.50 basis points.
Twenty-eight equities recorded price appreciation on Monday with 32 others recording price depreciation.
Continental Reinsurance Plc was Tuesday’s top gainer. It rose by 6.14 per cent or seven kobo to close at N1.21 per share.
NPF Microfinance Bank Plc followed with a five per cent or four kobo gain to close at 84 kobo per share, while Learn Africa Plc was up by 4.97 per cent or eight kobo to close at N1.69 per share.
May and Baker Nigeria Plc was also among the gainers, rising by 4.88 per cent or eight kobo to close at N1.72 per share.
On the other hand, Smurfit Print Nigeria Plc fell by 17.19 per cent or 22 kobo to close at N1.06 per share.
Neimeth International Pharmaceutical Plc declined by 4.76 per cent or six kobo to close at N1.20 per share, while Eterna Plc was down by 4.63 per cent or 21 kobo to close at N4.33 perh share.
In all, investors traded 523.329 million shares valued at N5.129bn in 5,363 deals.
