The organisers of the annual Lagos International Trade Fair, the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, have given assurances that the 2014 edition of the fair will be hitch-free, because of some of the measures that have been put in place to ensure its success.
Among the measures are the provision of alternative sources of power, procurement of two marquee tents to provide indoor halls for exhibitors and extension of the exhibition areas from the main bowl of the Tafawa Balewa Square to adjoining facilities like the cricket pitch of the TBS and the car park of the Club Arcade.
Besides, the organisers said the fair, which will take place between November 7 and 16, 2014, would better organised with several new innovations meant to ensure the comfort of exhibitors, visitors and the general populace.
The President, LCCI, Alhaji Remi Bello, said during the public presentation of the prospectus of the fair in Lagos on Tuesday that the role of the fair in promoting the Nigerian economy had become more important with the new status of the country as the biggest economy in Africa and its recent hosting of the World Economic Forum on Africa.
He said, “The Lagos International Trade Fair has over the years been a vehicle of promoting and showcasing the abundant resources and numerous investment opportunities in the Nigerian economy.
“We assure the business community that we shall sustain and consolidate on these achievements by continuously providing an even better delivery of value to our clients.”
Bello added that this year’s fair was coming at a time when the country needed to, more than ever before; showcase its numerous opportunities for investment.
While explaining the theme of this year’s fair, ‘Promoting the Nigerian economy as a preferred investment destination’, the LCCI boss said the African continent had become an attractive investment destination for many organisations from the Americas, Asia and Europe, with Nigeria being the destination where the return on investment was the highest.
The Chairman, Trade Promotion Board, LCCI, Chief Michael Olawale-Cole, said the lessons learnt over the years would help in the delivery of quality trade promotion services and remarkable opportunities for both the private and public sector players.
The Chairman, Trade Promotion Board, LCCI, Princess Sarah Sosan, said the LITF would provide over 40,000 square metres of exhibition space, with over 500,000 visitors expected within and outside the country.
The Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Lagos State, Mrs. Olusola Oworu, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mr. Wale Raji, pledged the cooperation of the state government with the LCCI towards making the fair a success.
