Lagos trade fair complex to host 120 companies

The management of the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex has said the complex will host an exhibition in partnership with Ukraine International Exhibition Centre and Heritage International Business Concept, aimed at boosting trade in the country.

The complex, which used to be the venue for the Lagos International Trade Fair, was a few years ago acquired by Aulic Limited from the Bureau for Public Enterprises under a concession arrangement.

“This place is an exhibition and convention centre, so it is a place that should not be devoid of trade fairs and exhibitions at any point in time,” the Managing Director of Aulic, Dr. Chika Eze, said.

Ezeh stated that the exhibition coming up between June 6 and 15, with the theme, ‘Boosting Nigeria’s development through creative and innovative industrialisation’, would have more than 120 foreign companies as well as a large number of local companies from the Nigerian business community.

She said, “About seven countries through their embassies have booked for special days; they want to address the business community here and tell them what their countries can do, the role of the embassies, and their commercial services. Some of the overseas business people are already in Nigeria talking with their embassies and planning on how to come over and reach out to Nigerian businesses.

“We already have 119 companies from overseas. We have 29 of them that are already here with their products and we are expecting others to come in before the end of this month. Also a company in Eastern Europe is coming to seek partner to establish a private television station in this country.”

According to Ezeh, the exhibition is being organised to match the country’s up-and-coming businesses with suppliers from the international market.

“It is an exhibition where we plan to bring into this country, services and products that are not here. We have informed the local SMEs about this concept and they have indicated interest to attend.   The match-making will not only help the individual companies but will also help the country in her development movement. By doing this, we will be boosting the economy,” she added.

She said the complex which was abandoned for several years had been renovated.

She said, “This is a place that was neglected for a very long time and the infrastructure went dilapidated. Anyone that has been here about four, five and six years ago will appreciate the changes that have taken place here.”
