Vice President Namadi Sambo on Tuesday inaugurated a special committee saddled with the responsibility of implementing the White Paper on the Steve Oronsaye-led Presidential Committee on Restructuring and Rationalisation of Federal Government Parastatals, Commissions and Agencies.

Prominent among the provisions of the White Paper is the merger of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority and the Nigerian Meteorological Agency.

The committee chaired by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Pius Anyim, is expected to exercise overall responsibility for the implementation of the White Paper and design guidelines, ensure effective coordination and monitoring of the implementation process.

The committee is also to supervise, consider and decide on the recommendations of the four sub-committees on the implementation of the White Paper; and advise government on any other matter(s) that would further facilitate the achievement of the key objectives for the restructuring.

The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Muhammed Adoke is the Vice Chairman while the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms is the secretary of the committee that has the Ministers of Aviation; Education; Health; Industry, Trade and Investment, Science and Technology; Tourism, Culture and National Orientation, as well as the Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission as members.

Sambo, in his remarks, regretted that in recent years, many parastatals have failed to live up to expectations while many others have no clear mandate.
